For a Winter's day in Blackstone, it wasn't half bad. The snow of the previous week had been replaced by the green grass; the grey clouds replaced by azure sky and a scalding sun; the empty beach replaced with a hive of students buzzing about with barbecues, drinks and clothes completely inappropriate for the time of year.
Squinting at the sun from behind her shades, Alana stepped onto the golden sand, her grimace barely detectable as the grains instantly seemed to grind between the toes on her bare feet. She clocked the company. Amongst the crowd, she vaguely recognised a few arts students, and not many scientists, which was a huge relief. Scientists and Medics are like, so lame, and all virgins, and just generally losers. She might even get laid tonight.
She dropped her bag down next to a group of English majors babbling on about their latest novel. "Watch my stuff." Knowing it was quite rude, she smirked; she knew no one would protest, and they didn't. A few looks were exchanged and finally affirmative murmurs. Taking off her long jacket, she was suddenly bare in a bikini and striding off towards the water, golden skin radiating in the sunshine.
Almost like summer.

Of all the sights to greet her as she promenaded quite aimlessly along the edge of the beach - deftly hopping up to dance her way along the wall parallel every so often - what Kinn had expected least was sunshine. But there it was, creeping out from behind a dinosaur-shaped cloud and radiating downward. She paused, one foot raised and still poised to jump, to gaze at it. Glorious.
The woollen pashmina draped around her shoulders was duly discarded and bunched carelessly under one arm, revealing a paint-stained white vest top several sizes too large - it was unattractive, certainly, but the relief of freedom from winter clothing overwhelmed any self-consciousness.
Enchanted, she cleared the wall in one clumsy leap and made a mad dash for the ocean.

The sea was one of her favourite things in life, and always had been. The smell, the cool refreshing waves, the living ebb and flow and the salty taste were like a comfort blanket to her. Taking a moment to shake off the beads of water that glistened on her skin, she stepped away from the tide and towards a barbecue, recognising a few classmates she could no doubt harass until she founds someone interesting to hang with.
"Whoooooooo! Hey guys!" Alana threw her arms up into the air and grinned genuinely in her best 'let's party' pose. "Pour me a few shots of that tequila, would you, honey?" As she waited on her drink, she acted the social butterfly through the group, solidifying her acceptance into the group and picked at some nibbles on a rickety little table. Eventually, when she got her tiny glass of sweet, golden, nectar that was tequila, she put it to her lips savoring the taste. Bliss.
She coughed it up again immediately, half out of rage and half out of incredulous laughter as she saw a tiny girl sprinting towards the water.
Eugh. King-chung.

Kinn, as usual, was completely oblivious to the activities of others. Her pashmina, adorably gaudy kitten backpack and ballet pumps were promptly thrown onto the sand; as careless as she was, it wouldn't do to wreck such a precious outfit. The knee-length skirt and tights? Necessary casualties - she could hardly strip to her underwear here. The white-blue of the ebbing waves called irresistibly, and she shrieked in sheer glee as her toes touched water.
The following few minutes were spent prancing (ridiculously) at the tide's edge. She wouldn't swim; even with the warmth radiating from the sky, she'd freeze if submerged.
